WNBA star, Kelsey Plum and NFL tight end Darren Waller are calling it quits and have revealed that they filed for divorce after one year of marriage.

According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, on April 23, Plum, 29, and Waller, 31, filed a joint petition for divorce in Clark County, Nevada. Shortly after the filing, Plum released a statement on social media that read: “I’m devastated. I walked through fire for that man, but now I see it’s time to go,” she shared to her Instagram story. “God has given me an incredible life, and I’m truly so grateful for the profound love from my family and friends,” the Las Vegas Aces star continued.

“One day I’ll share my story, today is not that day. Thank you for the grace to process my pain, to forgive and move forward. Today and everyday I will continue to choose joy. Much love KP.” Plum concluded her message by referencing the Bible verse Philippians 1:6, which conveys the message that “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”

Plum, a two-time WNBA champion with the Aces, and Waller started their relationship when he was playing for the Las Vegas Raiders. They were together for approximately a year before getting married on March 4, 2023.

As reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Plum and Waller obtained a marriage license on January 22, 2023. Soon after their wedding, Waller was traded to the New York Giants, relocating them across the country.

Waller recently spoke with PEOPLE and revealed that he was considering retirement. “I’m at the point now where I’m like, ‘Is this something that I want to continue to invest my time, invest my body, invest my mind in?’ And I’ve got to come to a decision on that,” Waller previously stated.

“And it’s to the point where it’s like, man, I don’t feel like I’ve really done a lot. In some ways my life hasn’t really started.”

Waller added, “I’m a guy who’s into a lot more than football,” Waller says. “And football’s done a lot for me, I’m so grateful, but it’s a grind, and you’ve got to be 100% willing to suit up for it, and I’ve got to decide if I’m 100% or not.”

Plum is currently gearing up for a new WBNA season in May.
