It is sadly being reported that the number of deaths in Buffalo and surrounding areas is expected to rise as snow continues to blanket Erie County into Tuesday afternoon.

Per the medical examiner’s office in Erie County, 27 of the 57 deaths reported across the country, were directly related to Winter Storm Elliott.

Between the snow and the freezing temperatures, people have been trapped in their homes, or even cars while trying to evacuate. Some even passed after suffering from heart problems during snow blowing and snow shoveling.

Throughout the historic winter storm, nearly 2 million U.S. residents were left without power. As of Monday morning (December 26), less than 100,000 were still without power.

In Buffalo, at one point during the storm, 20,000 residents had reported an outage. By Monday afternoon, that number had cut in half to 10,000 people still without power.
