Willow Smith is about to trap herself inside of a box alongside her rumored boyfriend Ty Cole, for 24 hours so that they can explore their anxieties.
Smith will spend 24 hours inside of a box where she will process through eight different emotional states that lasts three hours each, including paranoia, rage, sadness, numbness, euphoria, strong interest, compassion and acceptance. They will only be allowed to leave the box to use the bathroom for 2 minutes at a time.
The 19-year-old has been vocal about her struggles with anxiety and recently told The Los Angeles Times that Kobe Bryant’s death is some of the inspiration behind the art.
“We’re on this planet and anything could happen, like the thing that just happened with Kobe? That was really a knife in the heart,” she said. “every moment is precious. And I think everyone has a fear of just not knowing what’s going to happen in the future, not knowing if you’re on the right path, not knowing if you’re making the right choices.”
In addition, Smith and Cole have an album, “The Anxiety,” which will be released after the exhibit.
“We were like, ‘Wouldn’t it be so interesting if we could personify this experience? Starting from being scared and feeling alone and moving to a place of acceptance and joy,” Smith added.
The free showcase will start at 9 p.m. today, Wednesday, March 11 and will be held at the Museum of Contemporary Art’s Geffen Contemporary in Los Angeles.
