Will Smith reportedly was “on edge” prior to Chris Rock’s joke about Jada Pinkett Smith at the Oscars after dealing with jokes about his marriage for months.
In an exclusive by Page Six, the couple felt they were “more exposed” due to the constant commentary and jokes about their open marriage. One source said, “Will and Jada have taken the high road when it comes to ‘stupid gossip’ about polyamory and Scientology. But they have felt more exposed these past few years and it’s taken its toll.” Additionally, Will allegedly became “fed up” with the constant questions about his 25-year marriage during this year’s awards season.

As previously reported, Smith slapped Chris Rock during his presentation for “Best Documentary” at the 2022 Oscars after Rock made a “G.I. Jane” joke about Pinkett-Smith due to her shaved head. The Oscar-winning actor later issued an apology on his Instagram page for his behavior towards Rock and the Academy.

“I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”
No charges have been filed by Rock for the assault but people questioned if Smith will face legal consequences for his actions.
