In an exclusive by Page Six, several Hollywood insiders claim the Oscar-winning actor has yet to personally apologize to Rock for the slap and is reportedly annoyed by Smith’s “spiritual trip” to India. One of them called his soul-searching trip “cynical and ridiculous” since he has yet to reach out to Chris Rock.

“Will’s ‘spiritual journey’ to India for yoga and meditation seems cynical and ridiculous, given that he hasn’t apologized personally to the one person he assaulted in front of millions. No amount of Namastes will make up for that.”

As previously reported, Will Smith was seen for the first time weeks after the slap in Mumbai, India on Saturday where he’s reportedly practicing yoga and meditation. Although he hasn’t apologized to the comedian personally, Smith has apologized to the Academy and withdrew himself as a member.

“I am resigning from membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and will accept any further consequences the Board deems appropriate,” The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends, and loved ones, all those in attendance, and global audiences at home. I am heartbroken,”

The Academy also banned Smith from all activities relating to the Oscars for ten years.

“The Board of Governors has decided, for a period of 10 years, from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards.

We want to express our deep gratitude to Mr. Rock for maintaining his composure under extraordinary circumstances. We also want to thank our hosts, nominees, presenters and winners for their poise and grace during our telecast.”

Jada Pinkett-Smith also chimed in on her husband’s spiritual journey and was the one who suggested the journey after the Oscar slap controversy and even hinted at the idea last week in a brief statement: “The Smith family has been focusing on deep healing. Some of the discoveries around our healing will be shared at the table when the time calls.”

“Will and Jada have taken the family on [a] vacation that was already planned. There had been talk of canceling [the trip] but Jada insisted,” an insider explained to US Weekly.

Smith was spotted in India meeting up with spiritual leader Sadhguru and taking photos with fans.

However, reps for Smith or Rock did not confirm the claims.
