Back in 1993, Whoopi Goldberg reportedly contributed to a charity cookbook, titled “Cooking in the Litchfield Hills”, and submitted a fried chicken recipe. Her recipe was titled “‘Jewish-American Princess Fried Chicken” and it included instructions on how to prepare and cook the chicken. One of the steps reads, “Then you tightly close top of the bag (watch your nails) and shake 10 times. Hand bag to Cook, go dress for dinner. While you dress, have Cook preheat oven to 350 degrees and brown chicken slowly in skillet. When evenly browned, have Cook place chicken in dish in oven. Have Cook prepare rest of meal while you touch up your makeup.”

At the time, Goldberg’s recipe was called “anti-Semitic” by the Anti-Defamation League. “It’s a lousy recipe with insensitive and anti-Semitic ingredients. Whoopi should know better,” their statement reads.

Goldberg’s rep said in a statement that her critics are not aware that she’s Jewish and said her commentary was not “anti-Semitic.”

“My family is Jewish, Buddhist, Baptist and Catholic — none of which I subscribe to, by the way, as I don’t believe in man-made religions.”
