White Influencers Cause Outrage Over Blackface Makeup in ‘Support’ Of ‘Black Lives Matter’

A few white influencers across Instagram have caused outrage while attempting to stand in solidarity and in “support” of “Black Lives Matter,” all while donning blackface makeup.

While some influencers have turned the protests over the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and more into photoshoots, the new Coachella, and other trendy activities, they’ve now disgraced and undermined the meaning of the movement in their makeup tutorials.

As one user, identified as influencer and Lebanese vocalist Tania Saleh, wore an afro with tanned skin in a photo, she took things up a notch in her caption, by going as far to say that she wishes she was black. Another user, Souhila Ben Lachhab was also blasted for posting a since-deleted photo of herself with half of her body painted brown, claiming, “Just because we’re black on the outside, doesn’t mean we’re black on the inside. Racist people are the true black heart ones. They are black on the inside, and they know it.”

Popular satirist user, SaintHoax, used their platform to call out the influencers, showing them the origins of blackface and why it’s infuriating to relive the painful and racist history.
