White House Pushes For Measly $600 Stimulus Checks

While the Coronavirus pandemic sees no end in sight, people are still waiting for a second stimulus package. However, the current Republican White House is pushing for a much smaller stimulus check this time around.

Trump’s days might be numbered, but he still holds the power on some major economic decisions. On Tuesday, his administration proposed an economic relief package that would offer a lot less in federal unemployment and a petty Stimulus check.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy revealed to the administration that they would support the idea of a $600 stimulus check.

“This proposal includes money for state and local governments and robust liability protections for businesses, schools and universities,”Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said.

House speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Chuck Schumer said the proposal would cut unemployment insurance spending from $180 billion in the bipartisan framework to $40 billion, which is “unacceptable.”

“While it is progress that Leader McConnell has signed off on a $916 billion offer that is based off of the bipartisan framework, the President’s proposal must not be allowed to obstruct the bipartisan Congressional talks that are underway,” Pelosi and Schumer said.
