#Socialites, get into this: Former New York City mayor and US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Rudy Giuliani, has been disbarred for his role in attempting to subvert the 2020 presidential election.
This Tuesday, the state appeals court in New York’s Appellate Division, First Department, found that Giuliani had “flagrantly misused” his position as an attorney for former President Trump and his campaign, making intentionally false statements to courts, lawmakers, and the public.
The panel of judges in the Appellate Division, First Department, unanimously determined that Giuliani’s actions violated the fundamental principles of the legal profession. In addition to that, the court stated that Giuliani’s intentional dissemination of false information undermined the integrity of the legal system. The judges further criticized Giuliani for showing no remorse for his actions. Mr. Giuliani previously was suspended from being able to practice law while the New York court was reviewing attorney discipline proceedings against him.
What Are His Legal and Professional Consequences?:
With the disbarment ruling, Rudy Giuliani is no longer permitted to practice law in New York. This decision signifies a significant blow to Giuliani’s legal career, which was once highly regarded. Disbarment is the most severe punishment that can be imposed on an attorney and highlights the seriousness of Giuliani’s misconduct. It effectively removes him from the legal profession and signifies a loss of professional credibility.
To make matters worse, the Republican figure is facing disciplinary proceedings in Washington, D.C., where a bar disciplinary committee recommended his disbarment last year. In addition to that, he also faces two criminal indictments in Arizona and Georgia for allegedly interfering in the 2020 election, on top of a $148 million defamation judgment for lying about two former Georgia poll workers. Following the December judgment, he ended up filing for bankruptcy
Giuliani’s involvement in spreading false information and baseless claims about the 2020 election contributed to the already tense political climate in the United States. Let us know your thoughts on this in the comment box below!
