What Do You Think Will Happen? Academy Will Hold Full Board Meeting Today To Discuss Disciplinary Action Against Will Smith For Slapping Chris Rock At The Oscars
As we previously reported, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has launched a formal review of the incident involving Will Smith and Chris Rock, and will discuss it at a full board meeting on Wednesday, according to the Daily Mail.
The news site reports that the academy must follow a process outlined in its conduct policy. If the group determines Smith violated its standards of conduct, members could expel the actor from the organization, revoke his Oscar, or make him ineligible for future awards. The academy, which condemned Smith’s actions on Monday, said it was reviewing the episode, but the inquiry is expected to take a few weeks, sources familiar with the matter said.

As Will is expected to handle this, he’s also dealing with safety concerns. Officers arrived at Smith’s mansion in Los Angeles on Tuesday afternoon, ahead of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences holding an emergency board meeting today. LA County Sheriffs were seen driving through the gates of the Calabasas mansion in a patrol car at 2:40pm after they received a call about an alleged drone sighting over the property.
“We just sent that unit over there to try to
locate the drone and see if there was a
paparazzi or what was going on,” Deputy Lizette Salon, a spokesperson for the LA County Sheriff’s department, told Page Six. “But when the deputies got there, they weren’t able to locate the drone. It had already left the area.”
Rock was presenting the award for Best
Documentary when he made a joke about
Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s appearance. “Jada, I love you. GI fane 2, can’t wait to see
you,” he quipped in an apparent reference to
the actor’s shaved head. In response, Will socked him right in the face.
Chris Rock has declined to file charges. However, after the ceremony, the Los Angeles Police Department issued a statement about the incident: “LAPD investigative entities are
aware of an incident between two individuals
during the Academy Awards programme. The
incident involved one individual slapping
another. The individual involved has declined
to file a police report. If the involved party desires a police report at a later date, LAPD will be available to complete an investigative report”
