Beto O’Rourke is not having it! On Wednesday the Democratic gubernatorial candidate went off on a heckler who laughed as he discussed a recent mass shooting.
O’Rourke delivered a speech at a town hall in the city of Mineral Wells about the deadly mass shooting at Uvalde, Texas, the elementary school carried out by a gunman who killed 19 children and two adults. He said,
“I’m going to make sure that now, 11 weeks since we lost 19 kids and their two teachers, shot to death with a weapon originally designed for use in combat, legally purchased by an 18-year-old who did not try to obtain one when he was 16 or 17 but followed the law that’s on the books, ladies, and gentleman, that says that you can buy not one, you can buy two or more if you want to, AR-15s, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, and take that weapon that was originally designed for use on the battlefields in Vietnam to penetrate an enemy soldier’s helmet at 500 feet and knock him down dead…” As he went on, somebody in the crowd started to laugh, prompting O’Rourke to swiftly turn around and say, “It may be funny to you, motherf—er,” he said, “but it’s not funny to me.” O’Rourke got applause from the crowd for his response.

Following the event, he tweeted, “ The parents in Uvalde are demanding action to address gun violence so no more families have to go through what they are experiencing. As governor, I will work with them to deliver it.” He added “Nothing more serious to me than getting justice for the families in Uvalde and stopping this from ever happening again.”
This is not the first time he snapped over the deadly shooting. Beto O’Rourke made a scene when he angrily confronted Gov. Greg Abbott at his the governor’s news conference about the school shooting, back in May yelling, “This is on you.”
“You are doing nothing,” O’Rourke said. “You are offering up nothing. You said this was not predictable. This was totally predictable when you choose not to do anything.”
The Democratic candidate has been pushing for more restrictive gun laws during his campaign. He is set to face off against GOP Gov. Greg Abbott in November.
