Washington Post Settles $250M Defamation Lawsuit Filed By HS Student Nick Sandmann
The Washington Post has settled a $250 defamation lawsuit, filed by Covington Catholic High School student Nick Sandmann, over its controversial coverage of a viral confrontation the Kentucky teen had with Native American activist Nathan Phillips at the Lincoln Memorial in January 2019.
Following the confrontation during which Sandmann wore a “Make American Great Again” hat, footage surfaced and The Post provided coverage, naming the teen as an aggressor. Subsequently, Sandmann filed a libel suit against the publication, and today, he took to Twitter announce his victory.

Thanks to my family & millions of you who have stood your ground by supporting me. I still have more to do.” He then added, “We have settled with WAPO and CNN. The fight isn’t over. 2 down. 6 to go. Don’t hold your breath @ jack [Jack Dorsey].”
A spokesperson for The Post stated, “We are pleased that we have been able to reach a mutually agreeable resolution of the remaining claims in this lawsuit.”
