Walmart Shopper Whose Leg Was Amputated After Stepping On Rusty Nail Awarded $10M

A South Carolina woman who walked on a rusty nail and had to amputate her leg has won $10 million after a jury stated Walmart was to blame for her injury.

April Jones won the case against a Walmart location in Florence, S.C., on Tuesday after a five-day prosecution, ABC 7 reported, and will use the cash to cover bills associated to her injury. The jury evaluated for an hour and a half.

Jones actually filed the lawsuit back in 2017, two years after she stepped on the rusty nail and ended up falling out on the floor.

Jones instantly went to the hospital and was notified that the injury was infected, directing the solution to amputation of the toe. But the wound did not heal appropriately, and when her foot turned black, Jones ultimately had to amputate her right leg above the knee.

Jones is currently in a wheelchair now and says her life “has resulted in her loss of enjoyment of life and change in her personality, all to the permanent detriment to her health and physical wellbeing,” reads the lawsuit collected by The Washington Post.

This is the second time Walmart has lost a lawsuit this week according to reports. A case in Alabama on Tuesday resulted in a woman being rewarded $2.1 million in damages after she was arrested on a false charge of shoplifting and billed more than $200 from a law firm as a settlement fee, more than the cost of the groceries.
