Vivica Fox has opened up about her past diva-like tendencies that subsequently started to affect the number of roles she was being considered for in Hollywood. The raw and honest revelation was made in the actress’ latest interview with Entertainment Tonight while promoting her VH1 original movie, A New Diva Christmas Carol, executive produced by Idris Elba.

While speaking about co-star Ashanti’s character, Aphrodite, who is described as perhaps one of the worst kind of divas in the movie, Vivica also took a moment to reflect on her own career and whether she had ever experienced a time in her career when she got carried away with her own ego. Vivica doesn’t hesitate to admit that following a string of successful movies at the box office, she may have been feeling herself a little too much — and she’d quickly learn how that would later impact her acting career as a whole.

“I mean, you know, in my career I had five huge box office hits from Soul Food, to Independence Day to Set It Off to Two Can Play That Game and Booty Call, so my head was this big, OK?” she shared. When she was quizzed on what helped her to humble herself, she quipped, “The phone not ringing.”

Fortunately, Vivica had a number of people in her life that would make light of moments she was giving diva-like behavior, recalling how her business partner once told her, “Wow that head’s getting kinda big coming through the door right about now. Feeling yourself?”

The “Kill Bill” star continued, “You’re not gonna always be a hot piece at all times, you know, we’re in a business where things change constantly. So I had to go and reinvent myself, so I went back to the theater, I went and got on the road and did plays and I reintroduced myself to my audience because, you know, for a while there it was just about, hey, we’re more concerned about my love life than my talent, and that happens.”

Going through that hurdle in her life and seeing her career affected by her diva attitude quickly put things into perspective for Vivica, who has learned from her past experiences to simply keep things private and focus on what’s important, which is doing the work with a positive frame of mind.
