Virginia Gym Teacher Placed On Leave After Refusing To Use Students’ Preferred Pronouns

Byron “Tanner” Cross, a Christian gym teacher at Leesburg Elementary in Loudon County, Virginia, has been placed on paid administrative leave after publicly refusing to use the preferred pronouns of transgender students. The announcement was revealed last Friday (May 28) after Cross’ speech on Tuesday at a Loudon County Public Schools meeting about a “Rights of Transgender and Gender-Expansive Students” policy.

Now, this is the same school district that was under fire back in February for canceling Dr. Seuss books for racial undertones. In a video shared online, Cross stated, “My name is Tanner Cross and I am speaking out of love for those who are suffering from gender dysphoria.” Cross goes on to refer to a recent ‘60 Minutes‘ special, which highlighted teens “de-transitioning” after “rushing their decisions.”

He then adds, “It’s not my intention to hurt anyone, but there are certain truths that we must face when ready. I love all of my students, but I will never lie to them regardless of the consequences. I’m a teacher, but I serve God first, and I will not affirm that a biological boy can be a girl and vice versa because it’s against my religion. It’s lying to a child, it’s abuse to a child, and it’s sinning against our God.”
