Viola Davis Makes Oscars History As The Most-Nominated Black Actress Ever!

Socialites, join us in congratulating Viola Davis who not only snagged another Oscar nomination for her incredible work, but also made history in the process!

This Monday, the 55-year-old entertainer earned her fourth career acting nomination for her role in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and, in doing so, she broke the record for the most number of overall acting nominations for a Black actress in Hollywood history; also making her the only Black woman with two Best Actress nominations!

Davis’ four career Oscar nominations include: Best Supporting Actress for “Doubt,” Best Supporting Actress for “Fences,” Best Actress for “The Help,” and now Best Actress for “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” To note, Davis won the Oscar for “Fences.”

The most-nominated Black performer of all time remains Denzel Washington, who has a total of eight Oscar nominations. Morgan Freeman follows with five nominations (including one win) to date.
