The families of the victims who were killed in the helicopter crash with Kobe and Gianna Bryant have filed wrongful death lawsuits against Island Express Holding Corp. and Island Express Helicopters.

According to TMZ, the Altobelli and Mauser families have filed a lawsuit against Island Express and claimed negligence was the cause of their loved ones’ deaths. The suits state that Island Express carelessly did not follow safety protocols and breached their duty to own, lease, manage, control, and charter the helicopter leading up to the untimely deaths of their loved ones.

.Additionally, the helicopter’s negligence has caused physical, emotional,  and mental damages for the surviving members and they are asking for financial compensation their relatives could have earned if they survived the crash.

The company also permitted pilot Ara Zobayan, who also died in the crash, to fly despite bad weather conditions. Bryant’s suit claims Zobayan failed to monitor and asses the weather along with failing to maintain a safe distance between the helicopter and natural obstacles as reported by the Los Angeles Times.
