Vatican & Pope Francis Says Catholic Church Can’t Bless Same-Sex Marriages Because God ‘Can’t Bless Sin’

The Catholic Church will not be able to bless same-sex unions because God “does not and cannot bless sin,” the Vatican said in a statement that was approved by Pope Francis this Monday.

In a lengthy statement on Monday, The Vatican’s orthodoxy office, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, explained their decision, describing same-sex unions as “sinful” and said they “cannot be recognized as objectively ordered” to God’s plans.

“The presence in such relationships of positive elements, which are in themselves to be valued and appreciated, cannot justify these relationships and render them legitimate objects of an ecclesial blessing, since the positive elements exist within the context of a union not ordered to the Creator’s plan,” the response said. God “does not and cannot bless sin: He blesses sinful man, so that he may recognize that he is part of his plan of love and allow himself to be changed by him,” it said.

Although Pope Francis has endorsed providing gay couples with legal protections in same-sex unions, Francis — who has frequently been praised for his welcoming tone towards LGBTQ people both within and outside the Church, approved this note.

Sadly for some, the decision is a setback for Catholics who had hoped the institution would modernize its approach to homosexuality, CNN notes.

  1. Church of England should learn a thing or two from this statement. Marriage is an Institution ordained by God, not a lifestyle defined by popular consensus. There is nothing called same-sex marriage in the scripture. Therefore, same-sex union (homosexuality) is a lifestyle and practice including lust or inordinate or illicit sexual desire that fulfills humanity’s sinful desire. There is no identifiable “gay gene” known to scientists. Therefore, the argument of being born gay is a fallacy with no basis. The institution of marriage and sexual intercourse within it was created and ordained by God for procreation. If this were not so, those who engage in the practices of homosexuality would be able to procreate without assistance. Therefore, homosexuality is not a natural act.
Christians that accept, encourage, or partake in these sinful acts defy the basic principle upon which the natural law of creation rest.
