30-year-old Shakera Smith worked as a USPS worker in Queens and used a fake Connecticut license under the name Christine Petrow to book the surgery at Long Island Plastic Surgery on August 30, 2019. Investigators said Smith used the stolen business card to pay $8,000 for the procedure and underwent the surgery four days later. The victim said they discovered the charge a month later in his credit card statement and reported it as fraud. The criminal complaint states a US Postal inspector opened an investigation where they found records from the plastic surgery officer that showed Smith’s pre-operation photo and transaction records. Her identity was confirmed by her boss at the Rochdale Village Post Office and tracked her cell phone number that was linked to her name.
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz called the situation “a betrayal of the public trust and an insult to the thousands and thousands of hardworking postal employees who do their jobs with integrity,” and Smith reportedly confessed to stealing customers’ envelopes that contained credit cards and gave them to a man named Rizzo.
