US Sets Record With 77,000 Coronavirus Cases In One Day

It doesn’t look like life will be going back to normal anytime soon as the U.S. just set a single-day record for new Coronavirus cases on Thursday, with 77,640 reported infections all over the country.

As of now, the total number of cases in the U.S is 8.5 million, with 224,280 deaths. There were 921 COVID deaths reported on Thursday alone.

“We’ve been hearing essentially the same words from the president since February, that it was going to go away, that it’s going to disappear, whether that’s in February, March, April, May, and that’s what he’s saying now,” Dr. Ashish Jha, Dean of the Brown University School of Public Health said to MSNBC. “That’s not what the data says, unfortunately. I wish he was right.”

“Unfortunately, we are seeing a distressing trend here in the United States,” CDC deputy director for infectious diseases Jay Butler said, per CNBC. “…I recognize that we are all getting tired of the impact COVID-19 has had on our lives. We’re tired of wearing masks, but it continues to be as important as it has ever been and I would say even more important than ever as we move into the fall season.”
