US Companies Begin To Roll Out At-Home Coronavirus Test Kits

As the US continues to combat the rising number of coronavirus cases, test kits are needed now more than ever; and helping to combat are several companies introducing at-home versions.

While San Francisco startup Nurx has created a home testing and online consultation service, which can give customers lab results within 48 hours of receiving the test, another SF company, Carbon Health, joins in offering in-home test kits themselves.

Also, Austin, Texas-based Everlywell plans to roll out a home test by Monday (Mar 23). All companies have been green-lit by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), under new expedited guidelines to combat the novel virus.

Additionally, Hank Greely, director of the Stanford Center for Law and Biosciences and the Stanford Program in Neuroscience and Society, states, “[The FDA also typically] takes a good hard look at the information sent to the consumer. I suspect it hasn’t done that here for lack of time.”
