US-Canada Border Expected To Remain Closed Until At Least August 21
Government officials are stating that the US-Canada border is expected to remain closed until at least August 21, extending the March-enacted ban on non-essential travel between the two countries by an additional month.
The report arrives after talks between Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and President Donald Trump, and is resulting in new restrictions to be rolled out over the new few weeks, including heavier enforcement and surveillance at most Canadian land borders. Despite government figures in the US petitioning for the reopening, the Canadian PM says his administration is “going to continue to work hard to keep Canadians safe and to keep our economies flowing.”

Trudeau’s caution is well warranted as the coronavirus cases in the US continue to spike. Confirmed infections in the states have now hit nearly 3.5 million, including 140,000 deaths, as Canada barely hits 110,000 cases, with under 9,000 deaths. This also follows Florida’s recent report of hitting a new single-day record of 15,000 new COVID-19 cases.
