Congress Orders Donald Trump Administration To Release Jeffrey Epstein Files In Full By December 19, DOJ Releases Heavily Redacted Pages

As we reported in November, Congress notably passed a bill ordering the Trump administration release additional information from its investigations into Epstein, a late financier and convicted sex offender, within 30 days. The House passed the bill, titled the Epstein Files Transparency Act, 427-1 and the Senate unanimously approved it before Trump signed it into law on November 19.

On Friday, (December 19), the 30-day deadline arrived and the Trump administration released the remaining Epstein files. However, the files arrived heavily redacted. Before the release, Congress stated that the Trump administration could only withhold or redact documents that are classified, or that could identify victims or interfere with a federal investigation.

Speaking on the release, White House Deputy Press Secretary Abigail Jackson, said:

“The Trump administration is the most transparent in history. By releasing thousands of pages of documents, cooperating with the House Oversight Committee’s subpoena request, and President Trump recently calling for further investigations into Epstein’s Democrat friends, the Trump Administration has done more for the victims than Democrats ever have.”

However, Democrats and some Republicans in Congress are accusing the Department of Justice (DOJ) of violating its legal obligations after the Justice Department claimed it would not be able to release all the documents by the deadline.

Additionally, at least 16 files related to Jeffrey Epstein disappeared from the DOJ website less than 24 hours after release. Several missing documents included photos of President Donald Trump, former President Bill Clinton, FBI interviews with Epstein survivors, DOJ memos about charges, plus more. After the news broke, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche claimed the DOJ made the move to protect victims’ privacy.

While Deputy AG Todd Blanche blames missing Epstein files on protection for victims, lawmakers are debating on holding U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi in contempt of Congress.

Additionally, on Monday (December 22), Congresswoman Ro Khanna (D-CA), revealed that some Republicans are “on board” with potentially impeaching Bondi over the DOJ’s failure to release all of its files related to Epstein by the congressionally mandated deadline.

During an interview with MSNOW’s ‘Morning Joe,’ Representative Khanna said that Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY) would “lead” the effort it moves forward. Khanna said, “There are a few Republicans who are on board with it.” However, he highlighted that drawing articles of impeachment would not be the first step to pressure Bondi and the DOJ. Congress would first hold her in contempt of their order.
