According to a new update by TMZ, the coach identified as Gerrel Williams actually worked for a Sheriff’s Dept. in Georgia! Law enforcement tells the news site that the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office in Florida investigated Williams for possible child abuse after someone sent them video of the Dec. 7 incident. However, investigators who reached out to the victim’s mother said she did NOT want to press charges against the coach.
Now despite that, Mr. Williams is still not out of the woods just yet. As TMZ notes, it’s possible prosecutors can stop move forward with charges and use the video as evidence. Though, it will be difficult to get a conviction without a cooperating victim. Meanwhile, it was noted that the coach who smacked the kid has now been banned from all American Youth Football activities, the org. tells TMZ Sports.
Executive Vice President Adam Laufer of the massive youth football league tells TMZ, “We are of course beyond disappointed in the coach’s actions, which are wholly inconsistent with the fundamental value of youth sports. The coach has been banned indefinitely from all future AYF events and activities.”
The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia also confirmed he was an employee and noted that “He was a counselor in the detention center.” But, the CCSO says after seeing the video, Williams is “no longer an employee.”
He has since apologized for his actions. But clearly, that wasn’t enough for those who watched the video and now wants him to suffer the consequences.
