While Pence hasn’t publicly spoken out on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Dems’ attempt to get Trump out of office, advisers to the Vice President said Pence would not back the move. “Not happening,” said a Republican close to Pence when asked about the increased calls for him to replace Trump, according to Business Insider.
As we previously reported, following the big riots at the U.S. Capitol building on Wednesday, several Republican and Democratic lawmakers urged Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment. Now, the 1967 amendment to the Constitution ensures that the government remains in operation should a sitting president be deemed unfit to perform presidential duties, The Hill reports. In order for that to happen, the majority of the Trump Cabinet along with Pence would have to agree the president is unfit to serve for him to be removed.
As The Hill notes, several members of Trump’s Cabinet reportedly believe an effort to remove Trump will cause further instability in Washington, D.C.
