As we previously reported, Monique Munoz was killed on February 17 after 17-year-old Brendan Khuri drove at a speed of more than 100 mph and struck her vehicle in Los Angeles. At the time of the crash, Khuri did not have a driver’s license and his father, multi-millionaire James Khuri, allegedly covered up the story with positive news about his recent business ventures. According to the Daily Mail, the teen’s family claims he is ‘beyond remorseful’ and cries every day about the incident.

Charges have not been filed against Brendan due to his age and the Los Angeles Police Department said that the charges will be decided by the district attorney’s office. Before the arrest, Munoz’s family members questioned why it took authorities so long to arrest and charge the teen for causing the deadly car crash.

Investigators reported that the crash occurred while Brendan was allegedly racing alongside an Audi. However, the Audi was not found at the scene. ‘We believe that that vehicle was potentially engaged in a speed contest with the Lamborghini. That’s a separate investigation and that’s ongoing so I’m not willing to comment at the moment, but we do believe that it was involved,’ said Supervising Detective James Dickson.

The Khuri family’s defense attorney Mark Werksman said in a statement that a settlement has been reached between both families.

‘The Khuri family is devastated by the tragic accident on February 17, 2021, that caused the death of Monique Munoz. Their hearts go out to the Munoz family for their incomparable loss.  Lawyers for the Khuri family and the Munoz family have worked out a financial settlement in order to allow the families to heal, and they are in the process of finalizing those details. They ask for privacy during this sad and traumatic time. And while I will not discuss the details of the case or the factual allegations with you, I can tell you that there was no racing going on with any other vehicle at the time of the crash. The allegation that there was racing going on at the time of impact if simply false.’
