UPDATE: Rudy Gobert Says He’s Lost His Sense Of Smell Due To Coronavirus

Last week, Rudy Gobert, the Utah Jazz center whose positive COVID-19 test prompted the NBA to suspend operations, posted a video addressing the situation while telling fans he was getting better.

The NBA star shared another update on Sunday, revealing that his coronavirus symptoms have progressed into unusual territory. Gobert explained in a tweet that he has lost his sense of smell due to the virus.

“Just to give you guys an update, loss of smell and taste is definitely one of the symptoms, haven’t been able to smell anything for the last 4 days. Anyone experiencing the same thing?”

His update comes just as British authorities said on Sunday anosmia or hyposmia can definitely be a result of coronavirus.

“In South Korea, where testing has been more widespread, 30% of patients testing positive have had anosmia as their major presenting symptom in otherwise mild cases,” the president of the British Rhinological Society Professor, Clare Hopkins, and the president of the British Association of Otorhinolaryngology, professor Nirmal Kumar, said in a joint statement, according to Business Insider.

Gobert had only been feeling symptoms that led to tests for influenza, strep throat, and an upper respiratory infection, before a precautionary COVID-19 test. Gobert was reportedly feeling strong enough to play in the game that night.

Through his health journey, Gobert has encouraged his fans to stay strong and healthy. Now, they’re sending him sweet messages and prayers while urging him to do the same.
