UPDATE: Remy Ma’s son, Jayson Scott, Arraigned On 7-count Indictment Including Murder Over 2021 Incident

In the latest update on the case involving Remy Ma’s 23-year-old son, Jayson Scott, he and his accomplice, Richard Swygert, were arraigned on an indictment for their alleged involvement in a fatal shooting that took place in South Jamaica, Queens.

As previously reported, the NYPD shared Jayson Scott allegedly shot 47-year-old Darius Guillebeaux following a dispute on June 7, 2021. The exact nature of the dispute remains unclear, but Swygert, aged 22, has also been charged in connection with the same murder.

According to ABC7NY, Jayson Scott was arraigned on Tuesday on a seven-count indictment, which includes charges of murder in the first and second degrees, four counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, and reckless endangerment in the first degree. Meanwhile, his alleged accomplice, Richard Swygert, was also formally charged on Tuesday. To note, he was already in custody for the January 1, 2021 murder of 20-year-old Robert Williams outside of the Umbrella Hotel in Kew Gardens, the news site notes.

The Legal Consequences:

Both Swygert and Scott face serious legal consequences if convicted. Jayson Scott, being charged with murder in the first degree, could potentially face life in prison without the possibility of parole. On the other hand, Richard Swygert, charged with murder in the second degree, could face up to 25 years in prison.

What Has Remy Ma Said?

The taller, whose real name is Reminisce Mackie, had legal issues of her own. She was sentenced to prison in 2008 for her involvement in a shooting incident. She was charged with assault, illegal weapon possession, and attempted coercion. The incident occurred in 2007 when Remy Ma got into an altercation with a friend over money. During the altercation, she fired a gunshot that injured the victim. Remy Ma was convicted and served a six-year prison sentence before being released in 2014.

Remy has since spoken out on her son’s arrest saying, “We stand by JaySon’s innocence and pray that the NYPD will conduct a complete and thorough investigation to reveal the truth. This is undoubtedly a difficult time for my family and me. While we sincerely appreciate the love and support we have received from all of you, we kindly ask for privacy as our legal team works to prove JaySon’s innocence.

The statement continued, “As his mother, I want to address this situation personally but have been strongly advised by his legal counsel not to say anything — as most people in similar situations are informed by their attorneys due to it being an active case.”
