The suspect identified as Alexander Wright has been arrested and charged with assault as a hate crime and other counts, CBS New York reports. Investigators say Wright was found with what looks like the drug K2 when they detained him. They also believe the 48-year-old, who has been arrested 17 times — eight this year — lives in a homeless shelter.

As we previously reported, the incident happened in Chinatown at 6:15 p.m., when authorities say the 55-year-old woman was punched in a random and unprovoked attack. The woman was knocked to the ground and was taken to New York-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital with a facial injury. As ABC7NY reports, after the suspect punched that woman in the face, witnesses say he then turned to the crowd and yelled, “Do you wanna fight me?”

48-year-old Wright was taken into custody nearby and is charged with assault as a hate crime, assault, and criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was also taken to Bellevue Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
