In a significant development, a Clark County judge has set bail at $750,000 for Duane “Keffe D” Davis, a former gang member and suspect in the 1996 killing of rap icon Tupac Shakur.

Davis, who was indicted for murder by a grand jury, has been in custody at the Clark County Detention Center since his arrest in September. His public defenders recently filed a request for his release on bail, arguing that he poses no danger to the community and is not a flight risk.

Duane “Keffe D” Davis, now 60 years old, has been a prominent figure in the aftermath of Tupac Shakur’s murder. Over the years, he has given interviews and written a book, claiming to have been present in the car during the shooting incident in September 1996.

Keefe has been out there publicly claiming to have been in the car that night in 1996, when Tupac was shot and killed while riding passenger with Suge Knight.

“If Duane is so dangerous, and the evidence so overwhelming,” the lawyers wrote, “why did (police and prosecutors) wait 15 years to arrest Duane for the murder of Tupac Shakur?”

Davis is scheduled for a status check in court on Feb. 20, with his trial set to start on June 3.
