UPDATE: Kenosha ‘Vigilante’ Shooter Arrested And Booked For Homicide
As we previously reported, two people died overnight after a gunman opened fire during a protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin for Jacob Blake. Earlier this Wednesday, the police department confirmed that they were looking for a suspect and investigating the incident. Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth also noted that people describing themselves as belonging to a militia had been patrolling Kenosha’s streets in recent nights but he did not know if the shooter was involved with such a group.
However, videos online showed a white man roaming the streets with a gun and many pointing to him as the alleged shooter. Now, according to the latest updates but TMZ and USA Today, the “vigilante” shooter has been captured by cops and he’s now facing homicide charges.
The criminal has been identified as 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse. He was arrested in Antioch, Illinois. The news site notes that court records indicate he was booked for first-degree homicide in relation to the Kenosha shooting.
TMZ also reported that it appears he’s been assigned a public defender and is set to appear in court for an extradition hearing later this week. We will continue to keep you updated when more details have been shared.
