A day after the bear killed Leah Davis Lokan, it entered a residential property and ripped off the front door to have access. Shortly after midnight, federal wildlife workers lured the animal to a chicken coop and shot it to death. After its death,  investigators gathered animal DNA and will compare it to the DNA found at the site where Lokan was killed.

“Over the last couple of days, Officials have followed up on multiple bear sightings in the Ovando area. Last night, the Powell County Sheriff’s Office took a report from a resident who came home and found her door ripped off and large claw marks were present. A short time later a male grizzly bear was killed in the area. Samples were immediately taken from the bear and were sent to a testing facility where we hope to make positive identification within the next couple of days. Early indications are that this is likely the bear that was involved in Tuesday’s attack,” the Powell County Sheriff’s Office said in an updated statement.

Officials said they will receive results from the DNA analysis within three days to confirm if it’s the same animal that has been causing the attacks.
