UPDATE: Goya Foods CEO Speaks Out After Backlash For Praising Trump: “I’m Not Apologizing”

Goya CEO Robert Unanue faced a big wave of criticism after he praised Donald Trump on Thursday at a Rose Garden event where he announced a “Hispanic Prosperity Initiative.” Unanue told the crowd, “We all truly blessed, at the same time, to have a leader like President Trump who is a builder.”

Many were upset by his support, with a number of social media users pointing out Trump’s history of offensive comments and harsh policies toward Hispanics. Despite calls to #BoycottGoyaFoods, Unanue is not backing down on how he feels about the President.

He admitted Friday that he is facing backlash after praising President Donald Trump at the White House event – but said: ‘I’m not apologizing,” Unanue told “Fox & Friends.”

Unanue called the pushback against him visiting the White House “suppression of speech.”

“So, you’re allowed to talk good or to praise one president, but you’re not allowed to aid in economic and educational prosperity? And you make a positive comment and all of a sudden, it is not acceptable,” Unanue said.

Unanue made it clear that he is not apologizing for his remarks supporting Trump’s economic policy and would not turn down other future invitations.

“I didn’t say that to the Obamas and I didn’t say that to President Trump.”
