As we previously reported, the child was spanked with a wooden paddle in front of her mom as punishment for damaging a computer. Melissa Carter, head of Central Elementary School in Clewiston was placed under investigation by police after the April 13 incident. The six-year-old’s mother said she secretly filmed the incident after being called to the office but did not intervene, later claiming she was confused due to the language barrier. She later filed a police report and her attorney Brent Probinsky accused Carter of committing child abuse and aggravated battery.
However, the latest update reveals that Miss Carter will not face charges over the incident and that no crime was committed. According to the Daily Mail, prosecutors said the punishment did not cause harm or amount to child abuse and that its investigation found the child’s mom had actually consented to her daughter being spanked by the school staffer!
Despite this, the mother now wants the Dept. of Education to take a hard look at the situation and do what’s right and deny the principal her license.
