The unusual medical incident occurred when he unknowingly rolled over his erect penis, causing it to break in two places. According to doctors who documented the case in the International Surgery of Case Reports, they called his condition an “eggplant deformity,” which causes the penis to swell and turn purple. However, it took him 36 hours to seek medical attention. Upon arriving at the hospital, the medical staff observed not only the swelling and discoloration but a deviation of the penis to the right and a blood clot at its base.
Doctors performed a “degloving” procedure, which showed two distinct fractures. Penile fractures are severe but rare as they require immediate surgical intervention to prevent any long-term complications. Fortunately, the surgical team could repair the tears and handle the injury without complications.

The patient’s recovery went smoothly since swelling was significantly reduced by the second day, and erectile function was fully restored by the fourth day. After 12 months, he didn’t show any adverse effects on any sexual or urinary functions. The journal also noted that most penile fractures happen during sexual intercourse or other physical activities.
“Penile fractures in the erect state, though rare, are recognized as urgent urological emergencies. These injuries are predominantly the result of trauma during sexual activity, with vaginal intercourse being cited as the most common cause. However, other mechanisms have been identified, including masturbation, accidental rolling during sleep, and even self-manipulation.”
