A tragic incident in Indiaโ€™s Uttar Pradesh state has sparked outrage after a woman reportedly died during a botched surgery performed by an unlicensed doctor who was allegedly intoxicated and following a YouTube tutorial while operating.

According to Dexerto, the fatal operation took place at Shri Damodar Aushadhalya Clinic in the Barabanki District, where the victim, Munishra Rawat, was brought in by her husband, Fateh Bahadur, for severe stomach pain. The clinic was owned and operated by Gyan Prakash Mishra and his nephew, Vivek Mishra.

Doctor Performed Surgery While Intoxicated and Watching YouTube

Investigators revealed that Gyan Prakash Mishra agreed to perform a kidney stone removal procedure for 20,000 rupees (about $220), offering the couple a discount from the original 25,000 rupees ($275). However, the so-called doctor was reportedly drunk during the surgery and used a YouTube tutorial for guidance throughout the operation.

During the procedure, Mishra severed multiple nerves in Rawatโ€™s stomach, small intestine, and esophagus, causing internal injuries that led to her death.โ€œHe promised that other doctors would be there to assist with the surgery, but no one else came,โ€ Rawatโ€™s husband, Fateh Bahadur, told investigators.

Authorities say no licensed medical professionals were present at the clinic during the operation. Witnesses and investigators claim that Mishra appeared visibly intoxicated while performing the surgery, and that he referenced a YouTube video multiple times during the procedure.

Clinic Shut Down as Doctor and Nephew Flee Scene

Following the botched operation, both Gyan Prakash Mishra and his nephew Vivek Mishra fled the scene, leaving the victimโ€™s body behind at the clinic.

Local police immediately shut down the facility, which was found to be unregistered and operating without a medical license. Officials also seized medical equipment and surgical tools from the premises.

Authorities have since filed criminal charges against both men, and a post-mortem report confirmed that Rawat died from multiple internal injuries sustained during the procedure.
