Oats expressed his condolences to Jamea Harris’ family and said he is keeping them in his thoughts during this time. He called the crime senseless and didn’t reveal any further details in reference to the case. “I just want to start by offering condolences to the family and friends of Jamea Jonae Harris, the young woman, mother, and daughter who was taken away too soon from a senseless act. This is an incredibly sad situation. Hearts go out to her loved ones. I’m keeping them in my thoughts and prayers as they continue to grieve,” he said in a statement.

The college basketball coach stated he is trying to maintain structure and routine when addressing the case with his players and told them to “put together as a team at this point and really be there for each other.” Additionally, he’s been in touch with Miles’ mother as reported by the New York Post.

““This is a really difficult situation, and we’ll continue to support each other as we process this and balance school and basketball. To that end, we regrouped this morning to maintain our routine and some structure in the midst of this situation and we’ll practice before heading up to Nashville for the Vanderbilt game.”

As previously reported, Miles and Davis were accused of opening fire on a vehicle, fatally shooting Harris, and injuring another person inside. Investigators said the shooting transpired after the injured person returned fire.

According to the victim’s mother. Harris and Miles were involved in an altercation prior to the shooting because she reportedly didn’t want to talk to him. “Took my baby’s life because she wouldn’t talk to him,” DeCarla Cotton wrote on her Facebook page.

Harris was enjoying the weekend with her cousin who attended the school and her boyfriend. A GoFundMe was created for her five-year-old son, Kaine, to help with expenses used to help raise him.
