University of Minnesota Duluth football player Reed Ryan passed away on Tuesday after collapsing during a workout, according to TMZ.
The family announced that the 22-year-old was “doing what he loved,” on November 21. On that day, the defensive end was training in the weight room when he suddenly went into cardiac arrest. According to the report, officials were able to regain Ryan’s pulse and he was rushed to the ICU but sadly he passed away seven days later.

Ryan’s family shared in their obituary the medical emergency was all due to “an undetected genetic heart condition and a large, loving heart.”
“Reed had a contagious smile and lived life to the fullest in his short years,” Reed’s family wrote. “Reed loved people, he could talk to anyone and prided himself on being surrounded by friends, family, mentors, and being part of a team.”
“Our staff and players are devastated about Reed’s passing,” UMD head football coach Curt Wiese said in a statement. “Reed aspired to be better every day at whatever task was at hand. He helped bring out the best in others with his positive attitude, infectious smile, and genuine care for the people around him.”
Of course Bronny James made headlines after he collapsed during a workout but now the ball player is doing better and is projected to be back on the court soon.
Sadly, we previously reported on a high school basketball player, Caleb White who is one of the top high school basketball players in the country and he died after collapsing during a workout as well.
Charlette Varnadoe White, Caleb’s mother, released a statement saying, “Caleb was loved by so many,” his mother said. “Not only was Caleb a great athlete, he was a great kid. We have received an outpouring of support from the community, his high school and AAU coaches, the Administrative staff at Pinson Valley, the colleges that have recruited or shown interest in him even his barber! We are processing this tragedy as best we can.”
