After being extradited from Pennsylvania to New York on Thursday (December 19), UnitedHealthcare CEO murder suspect Luigi Mangione now faces four new federal charges, and he will be held in the same Brooklyn jail as Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is being represented by attorney Mark Agnifilo, just like Mangione. Note: Luigi Mangione is being represented by Karen Friedman Agnifilo and her husband Mark Agnifilo.
As we shared earlier, on Thursday morning, Luigi Mangione, the 26-year-old man who has been accused of murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, 50, in broad daylight in Manhattan on December 4, has been extradited to New York from Pennsylvania, where he was arrested after a 5-day manhunt resulted in him being found at a McDonald’s in Altoona.
After a 10-day stay inside a jail in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, Luigi Mangione went to a hearing at the Blair County courthouse in Hollidaysburg, where he faced forgery and firearms charges. At a second hearing, he waived his extradition to New York.
After being put in automobiles, planes, and helicopters, the UnitedHealthcare CEO murder suspect was escorted through New York City to a second courthouse and third hearing for the day, where he learned of four new federal charges placed against him. Luigi Mangione also learned that he’d be sharing the same Brooklyn jailhouse as his attorney’s other client, Diddy.

On Tuesday (December 17), UnitedHealthcare CEO murder suspect Luigi Mangione was indicted on first-degree murder charges by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Bragg charged him with murder as an act of terrorism, claiming Thompson’s early morning murder “was a killing that was intended to evoke terror. And we’ve seen that reaction.”
According to CNN, the UnitedHealthcare CEO murder suspect has been indicted on a total of 11 charges in New York. He also faces charges in Pennsylvania in connection to the 3D-printed firearm and fake ID allegedly in his possession upon arrest in Altoona. However, Blair County District Attorney Peter Weeks said he would not have these charges revealed until Mangione’s much more serious charges in New York were presented upon extradition.
On Thursday afternoon (December 19), a federal complaint against Luigi Mangione revealed four new federal charges in the UnitedHealthcare CEO’s murder and it provided new details about a notebook that law enforcement officials claim was in Mangione’s possession upon arrest.
The unsealed complaint revealed two counts of stalking, a count of murder through the use of a firearm, and a firearms offense. Mangione faces the death penalty if found guilty of the federal murder charge. However, prosecutors have not revealed if they will seek that punishment. If they do, the decision would need to be approved by the U.S. Attorney General.
In response to the additional charges, Luigi Mangione’s attorney, Karen Friedman Agnifilo, said, “The federal government’s reported decision to pile on top of an already overcharged first-degree murder and state terror case is highly unusual and raises serious constitutional and statutory double jeopardy concerns. We are ready to fight these charges in whatever court they are brought.”
Prosecutors claim the New York State trial against the UnitedHealthcare CEO murder suspect will arrive before his Federal trial. Mangione was officially placed in federal custody around 1 p.m. and sent to be housed in NYC’s only federal jail, Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC). The facility is also the holding place for Sean “Diddy” Combs as he awaits a May 2025 trial in his federal racketeering and sex trafficking case.
