Unemployment Benefits Expire For Millions As Trump Refuses To Sign COVID-19 Relief Bill, Federal Shutdown May Ensue

Overnight, unemployment benefits have expired for millions in the country as President Donald Trump refuses to sign the latest COVID-19 relief bill proposed by Congress.

As we reported last week, President Trump isn’t a fan of the current proposal as he blasts both houses of Congress for offering a measley $600 COVID-19 stimulus check to citizens, and funding thousands of dollars to other projects he saw irrelevant and unnecessary. Following his address, he tweeted, “I simply want to get our great people $2000, rather than the measly $600 that is now in the bill.”

Due to his failure to sign the bill by the midnight Saturday deadline, further nudged by President-elect Joe Biden, benefits for those on unemployment have subsequently expired. Biden stated, “It is the day after Christmas, and millions of families don’t know if they’ll be able to make ends meet because of President Donald Trump’s refusal to sign an economic relief bill approved by Congress with an overwhelming and bipartisan majority.” In addition to unemployment benefits running out, the same means for eviction protections, subsidies for small businesses, vaccine distribution and much more. If Trump continues to hold out, a federal shutdown will ensue.
