Rachel Bailey,31, and her husband Alexander,30, are the parents of three children and started their unique connection in 2016 during a couples’ cruise when Rache forgot her breast pump, which left her painfully engorged. According to the Daily Mail, Rachel explained that she was scared about getting an infection, so her husband decided to drink the milk to relieve her from the pain. However, she did clarify that they were nervous about the idea of him breastfeeding her.

The practice continued after Rachel gave birth to their two younger children, and she started to breastfeed Alexander at breakfast, lunch, and dinner until her supply went down, which reduced their schedule to nightly feedings. She claims that her breast milk’s high nutritional value kept Alexander from getting a cold for over two years and left his skin glowing. Although there is limited evidence on the health benefits of breast milk for adults, some studies claim that there are potential anti-inflammatory effects that could improve skin conditions like eczema and dermatitis.

Experts have also issued a warning against drinking breastmilk due to the risk of spreading diseases like hepatitis B and C, HIV, syphilis, and foodborne illnesses. Despite Rachel and Alexander briefly considering expanding their family to continue the practice, they have ultimately decided against it as it was considered a drastic move to make.

“We grieved that bonding experience we shared and even spoke about having one more baby so that we could do it again. However, we realized that was a drastic action to take, so instead we began looking for other ways to bond.”

They also clarified that their bonding technique was not a sexual act and said it was a unique way to bond in their marriage:

“It was never a sexual thing for us. We did it because it was an amazing way for us to bond and share something special as a couple. We really miss the breastfeeding times, but we’ve found new ways to connect.”
