Corinna Smith, a 59-year-old UK woman, has been found guilty of killing her husband in his sleep, using a concoction of boiling water and sugar.
The Crown Prosecution Service says on July 13, 2020, Smith got into a dispute with her 81-year-old husband Michael Baines and another family member earlier in the day. After committing the horrific deed, Smith tearfully ran to a neighbor’s home and told them, “I’ve hurt him, I’ve hurt him really bad… I think I’ve killed him.” Smith’s husband was then rushed to a hospital with significant burns to his torso and arms. A month later, he died on August 18. Per the Crown Prosecution Service, Smith admitted to the crime, but claims it all happened when she lost control. Initially, she was charged with grievous bodily harm, but the charge was elevated to murder following Baines’ death. After five-day trial, she was found guilty guilty and will learn of her sentencing on July 9.
