Hadzic made headlines this week after it was revealed that he is allowed to participate in the Olympics but he cannot reside in the Olympic village. The decision was made hours before the opening ceremony and the committee stated Hadzic is required to stay at a hotel 30 minutes away as a “safety precaution.” However, an arbitrator said he could pick a hotel that is closer to the Olympics training center. The rules were set for him after three women came forward to the U.S. Center for SafeSport that he committed sexual misconduct in 2013 and 2015 after he was qualified for the Olympic fencing team in May.

News of the professional fencer’s ruling came as a shock to the public as Sha’Carri Richardson was barred from the Tokyo Games after she failed a drug test for smoking marijuana. Richardson said she started smoking upon learning the news about her mother’s death.
