Tyra Banks Reportedly Not Be Returning To ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Once The Show Moves To Disney+ After Ratings Slump

Tyra Banks’ stint on Dancing With The Stars is reportedly coming to an end, just two years after she replaced Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews as the host of the ABC competition show.

Last week, it was revealed that DWTS would be moving from its current network over to streaming giant Disney+ this fall, a decision which was confirmed in a statement made by Kareem Daniel, chairman of Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution.

But now it’s been claimed that with the show moving to its new home, it will also be ushering in a new host as producers are not looking to bring Tyra back, sources tell The Sun.

According to the outlet, since the former America’s Next Top Model star took over Tom’s gig, ratings have fallen drastically, while long-time fans of the series have heavily criticized Tyra’s hosting skills.

With DWTS already renewed for the next two seasons, insiders allege that the show’s downfall in recent years wasn’t because of the stars that were signed to take part but how the format was being presented.

“Production has been a mess, with no clear direction of where [the show] was going, which is why certain producers have been axed in recent months,” a source gushed. “I wouldn’t say it’s Tyra’s fault the show got dropped by the network. I mean, that certainly didn’t help, but she came in and did the job she was hired to do.

“The problem is, she just didn’t fit in. She didn’t fit in with producers and she didn’t fit with the audience and it showed.”

Back in 2020, when a string of new executives took over to stir the show’s new format and direction, the source continued saying that things gradually started to fall apart for the ABC series, which has “always operated like a family” behind the scenes.

As previously mentioned, Tom Bergeron, alongside his co-host Erin Andrews, were ousted and replaced by Tyra back in 2020 after TV producer Andrew Llinares was hired to evolve the reality TV show, which first premiered back in 2005.

After his departure, Tom told Entertainment Tonight that he wasn’t shocked to learn about his firing, having clashed with executives when he stressed his concerns about the sort of celebrities that were being cast for the line-up.

The dad-of-two wasn’t fond of bringing former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer to DWTS in 2019, explaining, “Whether it was somebody I voted for or didn’t, I didn’t think a political person was an appropriate booking for the show, but also for the time we were going to be on, which was really on the cusp of the presidential election campaign, so we differed on that.

“The show that I left was not the show that I loved. So at the end of the seasons that turned out to be my last season, I kind of knew.”

Andrew later gave a statement to the same publication regarding Tom’s departure, expressing, “I think changing the host was all about evolution. It was about making the show feel fresh, making it feel new, kind of make it reach out to a new audience, as well as the audience that’s been there for years.”

In March 2022, Andrew surprisingly announced he was leaving DWTS after five seasons, much to the delight of Tom, who took to Twitter after the news broke, tweeting, “Karma’s a b****.”
