Tyler Perry Purchases Groceries For Elderly People At 73 Stores!

Tyler Perry is giving back again!

The mogul paid for the groceries of elderly shoppers in two states, including 44 Kroger stores in Atlanta, and 29 Winn Dixie stores in New Orleans during the first hour of the day, when stores are only open for older customers.

“He wanted to do something special to provide immediate relief for some of the most vulnerable in the two cities he considers home,” a source told PEOPLE.

“Senior and higher-risk Kroger shoppers in metro Atlanta did receive a nice surprise at the register this morning when they learned Tyler Perry had paid their grocery tab in full,” Felix B. Turner, a Kroger corporate manager said to 11Alive in an email. “We would like to join our customers in thanking Mr. Perry for his kindness and generosity during this unprecedented pandemic. It was truly a pleasure to see our customers fill with joy and gratitude as the news spread throughout 44 stores across metro Atlanta.”

One grocery store shopper in Terrytown revealed that as they went to checkout they were given a note that said, “Random act of kindness. Present to the cashier before 8 a.m.” They were then informed by the cashier that their bill was covered and that a “local celebrity” covered it.

“During a time when Louisiana is facing uncertainty, Perry and Winn-Dixie joined forces to provide thousands of elderly and high-risk customers with free groceries in all 29 Louisiana stores this morning,” a store rep said in a statement.

Perry had just recently left a big tip at Houston’s restaurant giving a $500 tip to “42 out of work servers,” a total of $21,000.
