Well, look at him now! In a recent interview with GQ, Tyler James Williams recently opened up about his “traumatic” experience being a childhood star.

The “Abbott Elementary” star, spoke about his time starring in the sitcom “Everybody hates Chris” from 2005 to 2009. During the interview, he claims the producer of the show told him, “I’ll never see you as anything else and you’ll probably never work again.” Williams continued, “I was like, ‘Holy s—, you really just looked at me and said that.'” He did say that the producer could’ve been joking with him, but he says he took his comments to heart.
He also explains how he had to pivot and go in a different direction because childhood stars typically get sucked into the industry playing teenage roles and he knew he wanted to do more than that. “I realized at 17 that I didn’t like the road I was on,” he explained. “So I decided to stop and pivot. I got with a really good acting coach and I turned down every single thing I was offered.”
Now if you’re not familiar with Tyler James Williams, he started his career at the young age of 11 when he was cast as the lead in Everybody Hates Chris. After that, he went on to appear in several other projects such as Abbott Elementary and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. In addition to acting, Tyler has also released two studio albums – Don’t Run Away (2008) and No Right Left (2012). In a recent viral clip, Williams appeared on Sway In The Morning and freestyles to HitKidd and Glorilla’s hit song #FNF which had everybody shocked that he can really rap!
