Two Canadian tourists were fatally shot after an argument took place at a hotel in Playa Del Carmen.

The shooting took place at the five-star hotel Xcaret on Friday when an argument broke out among a group of Canadian tourists. According to Quintana Roo state officials, gunfire erupted into the crowd leading to the deaths of two people and injuring a third person. Canadian police also noted that the deceased victims had criminal records prior to their deaths.
Authorities are currently searching for the gunman and said he has an extensive criminal record which includes robbery, drug, and weapon offenses. He was caught on surveillance footage wearing a grey sweatsuit and a black face mask.

The hotel said in a statement that the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident.
“We deeply regret the events that occurred at Hotel Xcaret this afternoon,”
