As tensions continue to grow across the country amid President Donald Trump‘s promised ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) deportations, three Temple University students are in hot water after posing as ICE agents in a failed “raid” on the North Philadelphia, PA campus, leaving at least one student charged and suspended.

According to officials with the Temple University Campus Police Department (TUPD) and Philadelphia Police Department (PPD), a 22-year-old student, identified as Aidan Steigelmann, has been suspended upon being arrested and charged for impersonating ICE agents in a failed “raid” with two other students on Temple University’s campus.
In an email issued to the Temple community on Sunday evening (February 2), Vice President of Public Safety Jennifer Griffin and Vice President of Student Affairs Jodi Bailey revealed that TUPD officials launched an investigation, along with PPD, after three students, accused of impersonating U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, were first seen at Insomnia Cookies on Cecil B. Moore Avenue before 10 p.m. on Saturday night (February 1).
Two of the suspects were wearing black shirts that read “Police” and “ICE” in white lettering while a third student was seen recording the incident. Campus Police said that the three students were also seen attempting to enter Johnson & Hardwick Residence Hall earlier that evening, but were denied access. That’s when TUPD officials identified and took one of the student suspects into custody, who was put on interim suspension and faces possible expulsion.
The Temple University student, involved in the failed ICE agents “raid” on campus, was then identified by the Philadelphia Police Department as 22-year-old Aidan Steigelmann and he was arrested and charged with impersonating a public servant.
A second individual was identified and listed as wanted on TUPD’s social media pages. Temple University Campus Police released an image of the second person of interest. However, on Monday (February 3), TUPD updated that the individual was identified, resulting in them removing its previous post. While speaking on the incident, Temple Police said, “It is deeply troubling and disappointing to know behavior like this reportedly occurred on our campus.”
Furthermore, the incident arrives just days after ICE agents conducted a raid on January 29 at a Philadelphia car wash, resulting in seven people being detained, in response to President Donald Trump’s demand that migrants involved in criminal activity be deported from America. In response to the reports, Temple University Campus Police have been reassuring students and staff members that they have not seen any federal ICE agents on campus.
