Two pet cats living in New York have tested positive for COVID-19. This is the first time a pet has tested positive for coronavirus in the United States.
According to NBC News, the two cats live in separate households in New York and have mild respiratory issues but they are expected to recover. Officials believe one of the cats contracted the virus from an infected owner and the other may have contracted it from an owner who is asymptomatic or through a neighbor. Although the CDC is still learning about the virus, there is no supporting evidence that pets can spread it.

The CDC says to practice social distancing rules with pets by keeping them indoors and preventing them from interacting with other humans or animals. Those who have tested positive for COVID-19 should stay away from their pets and wear a face mask if they have to make necessary contact.
