Two members of Trump’s legal team are getting out while they can. This Friday, his top attorneys resigned from his defense team just hours after news broke that he and a close aide were indicted on charges related to their mishandling of classified documents.
As previously reported, the Department of Justice released an unsealed federal indictment of former President Donald Trump which included 37 felony counts related to the mishandling of classified documents, obstructing justice, and making false statements. In addition to Mr. Trump, his former aide Walt Nauta is also looking at charges in the indictment. According to the Associated Press, he was seen removing boxes at Mar-a-Lago on a surveillance camera.
Speaking on the indictments, Special Counsel Jack Smith gave a breakdown of what the former president was charged with. He also encouraged the public to l read the indictment to fully understand how significant it is. “Our laws that protect national defense information are critical to the safety and security of the United States, and they must be enforced,” Smith said. “Violations of those laws put our country at risk.”
He added, “must be presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.” So what happens next? Well, that case will now be tried in the Southern District of Florida.

What Has Donald Trump Said About All Of This?
He has repeatedly denied wrongdoing. Mr. Trump wrote he is “INNOCENT” and claimed it was a “DARK DAY” for the U.S. The former President also claimed he is innocent in a video posted to Truth Social, saying: “I am innocent. We will prove that very, very soundly and hopefully very quickly. Thank you very much.”
Now, Trump is planning to run in the 2024 presidential election and many believe his criminal history may affect his chances of being re-elected.
His former VP Mike Pence who is also running for the top spot in office previously criticized him and suggested that he should not be eligible to run.
Trump, Pence said, “endangered my family and everyone at the Capitol” on the 6th. “But the American people deserve to know that on that day, President Trump also demanded I choose between him and our Constitution. Now voters will be faced with the same choice.”
“I believe anyone that puts themselves over the Constitution should never be president of the United States, and anyone who asks someone else to put them over the Constitution should never be president of the United States again.”
I find it very strange that they would file these charges now when they had almost (4) year’s to file them. They wait until it is this close to the election sounds fishy to me. May the best man win and we all know who that is.
